Lesson 1
HW - Essay
About Britain’s policy about banning flying carpets to be enchanted because they are stated as Muggle artifacts, I agree on Britain banning flying carpets. However, they shouldn’t be banned because they are Muggle artifacts. I see carpets as both Muggle and Magical folk artifacts. In my opinion, the reason why flying carpets should be banned is because they don’t look, in my point of view, something that you can have a firm grasp on. If someone was to fall off the carpet, while flying, they could grab the edge of the carpet, but can slide off easily. With a broomstick, (take for example when Harry’s broom was jinxed in the first film) you can wrap both your hands around the broom than just grabbing an edge. This comes to my reasoning with using a broom as transportation instead of a flying carpet. Not only that, but broomsticks look like they’ve been ‘experimented’ on a lot more than carpets. This gives me a variety to pick from.

To me, I believe that the greatest broom of this time was the Silver Arrow. For it is a broomstick, at the time that surpassed both the Moontrimmer and the Oakshaft ’79, and is sort of a long distant relative to the Firebolt in speed. When it comes to broomsticks and their speed, I become very passionate about this characteristic of a broom. Another reason why this is for being an amazing broomstick! It always comes to my mind about the so many different things that magical folk use brooms with stupendous speed, which has emerged from the past and a majority are still played in today’s popular magical sports, such as broom racing, Quidditch, and much more.
Since this broomstick has been flown by Madam Hooch, flying teacher at the Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry, it gives me another reason to be interested. I want to know as to why someone of our time, even if it’s a flying instructor, is flying something so antique among the magical items. It gives me a dedication to research into something from ancient history of the magic world.
