Lesson 2
HW - Essay
On this article, stated in the 1995 edition of The Quibbler, about ‘a wizard flying to the moon on a Cleansweep Six and brought back moon frogs to prove it’; this is something I strongly disagree with. Coming to this result, I feel like that this story is a ‘rip-off.’ This sounds like some ‘made-up’ article. There are many reasons why I come to this conclusion. First off, this wizard’s name isn’t mentioned. The Quibbler only mentions ‘a wizard.’ Secondly, there are so many questions relating to this story. Such as: were these moon frogs made public? Or, are moon frogs even real in the first place? It feels like so much confusion is going on here, it almost seems impossible for a broomstick, like the Cleansweep Six, can be ridden to the moon. By confusion, I’m talking about the many factors that are missing from this story that it doesn’t seem possible.

Coming to the many broomstick manufacturing companies, my thoughts lean towards the Nimbus Broom Racing Company. This company has created a wide variety of broomsticks that many magic folk have been interested in: brooms built for speed and ones that are made for families of a certain number, like five or six. Looking at other manufacturing companies, just reading the description in the lesson, they focus on only brooms that take after the company’s name, making the most recent broom more efficient with minimal details or magic enhancements changed on the newly made broom. In addition, the other companies only pay attention on making their brooms fast, which is centering on Quidditch. For example, looking at the Cleansweep Company, they started with their first broomstick when they came into business: the Cleansweep One. After that, the Cleansweeps have been labeled as ‘Cleansweep Two’, ‘Cleansweep Five’, and so on. This too is the same thing with the Comet Trading Company.

When I was a child, I was very curious of the air, always imaging myself flying in the skies as an eagle. As a youngster, I always knew my mother to be a witch, which is unknown to dad…and she knew…that there would come a time when I would have to learn the nature of a broomstick. For my mom was an expert in wand making, she knew the different woods well enough to determine the woods used in broom making. By the time I reached age 9, my mom asked a friend who knew broomsticks in a finer sense. Through our friend’s research, he recommended that an Oakshaft 79 would be best for first timers. My mom didn’t have that kind of broom at our place, but our acquaintance was nice of to lend his to us.
We kept our first lessons in the basement so we could get an idea as to what I was getting myself into. For this may have been a one person broom, I was small enough for both me and my mother to fit on the broom. It took me about a few weeks before I could fly on my own in the basement.
When the time came to tell my dad about our magical secret, we took a trip outside of our city and showed him that both my mother and I can fly a broomstick. It did surprise him that we were both witches and took him some time to live with us about our secret. By that time, it was my first attempt to riding a broomstick with a little time for family. At age 13, I was given a Nimbus 2000 as a gift and have been using this broomstick for racing.
